Heading to Indy
I will be racing the Indianapolis Monumental Half on Saturday, November 6. I am entered in the elite field, bib number 266.
My last race I ran 1:10:28 at the Columbus Nationwide Half on Sunday, October 17. I entered the race last minute as a tune-up for Indy. I hope the effort and experience pays off.
My number one goal heading into 2021 was to run a fast half. I would like to run 1:07 soon. I will be happy if I run 1:08 at Indy as I have yet to break 1:09. I am consistently running 1:09-1:10 (3 times this year) which gives me confidence that a break through is coming soon.
Beyond Indy, my next step will be deciding whether or not to run CIM. I am registered for the race, and hope to gain a seeded entry. I am leaning towards doing the race as I want to improve upon my first marathon that I ran in April in 2:36. Stryd tells me I am in 1:08/2:23 shape. I would be happy if I could end 2021 with a 1:08 and sub-2:30.
I plan to continue training at a high level heading into 2022 and will continue working with Dr. Tom Schwartz as my coach. I enjoy our relationship and I am continuing to learn his system now in my third year of running on his schedules. Lydiard said it takes 3 years of consistent training under a system to achieve the break through. I hope this will come in the next 1-2 years. I spent much of the first 2 years of training un-learning bad habits and overcoming injuries.
See you out there on the roads.
